Reflecting on her early career, Amal Hassan recounted her involvement with an IT training center in Kano, Nigeria. However, she recognized a persistent issue: despite receiving comprehensive IT training, many professionals remained unable to secure employment.
Determined to address this challenge, Hassan embarked on extensive research. This led her to explore the substantial job prospects offered by Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) services, particularly in India.
Unveiling the vast potential of BPO services, she observed the longstanding trend of American companies outsourcing customer services to Indian firms since the 1980s. Inspired by this revelation, she envisioned a similar trajectory for Nigeria, catalyzing her resolve to establish a similar platform within the country.
However, the journey was not without hurdles. Amal Hassan candidly admitted encountering several setbacks over an eight-year period, experiencing four failed attempts before successfully launching her company in June 2016.
Presently, her company, Outsource Global, boasts a workforce of 1,500 employees, with an impressive 50 percent comprised of women. This represents a commendable stride towards gender inclusivity and empowerment.
To effectively compete on a global scale, Amal Hassan understood the necessity of equipping her workforce with the requisite skills demanded by the international market, extending beyond just the American sector.
As a strategic response, the company developed a comprehensive training division. Recognizing the substantial pool of approximately one million Nigerian graduates annually, each possessing diverse skill sets.
Amal Hassan implemented a structured training program encompassing aspects such as communication skills, attention to detail, time management, critical thinking.
This approach ensured that candidates were well-prepared for client-specific training. Enhancing their employability and adaptability to dynamic market demands.
However, Hassan’s journey also shed light on an intriguing challenge. Following a year of operations, she observed prevailing reluctance among Nigerian graduates to pursue roles in customer service and sales.
This is despite acquiring specialized education. This revelation prompted a deeper exploration into the underlying factors contributing to this phenomenon. Therefore it informs Amal Hassan ongoing endeavors to cultivate an environment conducive to career growth and professional development for Nigerian youths.
