Who is Sheikh Albani Zaria?
Sheikh Albani Zaria, formally Sheikh Muhammad Auwal Albani Zaria, born on September 27, 1960, in Muchia, Sabon Gari, Zaria, Kaduna state, Nigeria, was a prominent figure in the Islamic community.
Despite initially aspiring to become a journalist, he heeded his mother’s wish and pursued a career as a cleric. His educational journey and accomplishments are noteworthy.

The city of Zaria was struck by tragedy on February 1st when gunmen mercilessly killed Sheikh Muhammad Auwal Adam Albani, along with one of his wives.
The incident occurred as they were returning home from the evening Tafsir lecture, a routine part of their daily lives.
The events of that fateful day shed light on Sheikh Albaniy’s activities leading up to the tragic incident.
Throughout the day, Sheikh Albaniy was deeply engaged in teaching and conducting lessons at his school in Gaskiya layout, Zaria.
In the evening, he delivered a well-organized lecture at Markazu-Salafiyya on Maje Road in Tudun Wada, Zaria. The lecture, focusing on the chapter of Hajj from the Book of Sahihul Bukhari, lasted from approximately 8:15 PM to 9:30 PM.
Following the lecture, Sheikh Albaniy, accompanied by one of his wives and some of his children, embarked on their journey back home.
Notably, Sheikh Albani Zaria preferred to drive himself, avoiding the use of convoys. Unfortunately, this decision proved fatal as it exposed him to potential attackers who were aware of his habits. It was during this journey, after the lecture in Tudun Wada, that the assailants intercepted them.

At a stopover at a Central Store along Zaria Gaskiya, Sheikh Albaniy engaged in some shopping. As he reached Magume junction, the attackers overtook his vehicle.

In the ensuing chaos, the attackers began firing indiscriminately. Sheikh Muhammad Auwal Albaniy, reciting the words “Laila ha illallahu” (from Allah we are and to Him we shall certainly return), fell victim to the bullets.
